If working with mechanical seals for pumps and agitators is part of your daily routine, this training course is for you.

Whether you are an engineer, millwright, operator, maintenance technician, supervisor, planner or any other person involved in the use, repair, installation, operation etc. of mechanical seals: This course gives you background knowledge and confidence.

In addition to comprehensive and relevant sealing knowledge, this course also covers application specifics, the appropriate seal supply systems and piping plans, and the professional assembly of mechanical seals. We include theoretical and practical parts on materials for sliding parts, workshops on failure analysis, the inspection and recognition of damage patterns. And we combine all this with detailed information on pump operation and hydraulics. All of this will help you to improve performance and increase the availability of your applications.

Correct installation and proper use are crucial for the performance of mechanical seals. However, improper handling and uncontrolled operating conditions can lead to damage and failure.

In this seminar, you will gain a basic understanding of seal functions in relation to damage mechanisms, learn about the theoretical background of seal damage and how to avoid complications.

Strengthen your skills in analyzing and preventing damage to mechanical seals and supply systems! Based on both theoretical and technical lectures as well as real examples from the field, you will acquire advanced knowledge of damage patterns and their causes. You will also gain the necessary confidence in selecting materials for mechanical seals based on products and media. Last but not least, you will be able to recognize and avoid possible damage in advance and thus sustainably increase the operational safety of your systems.

This seminar is aimed at field engineers, process technicians and mechanics from maintenance and production, whose tasks include the planning, installation, start-up, maintenance and repair of mechanical seals and seal supply systems.

The training course Technology and Application of Dry Gas Seals is a 2 and half-day training course offered in a classroom-based format in our Academy training rooms in Eurasburg, Germany.

The course conveys foundational sealing knowledge regarding the EagleBurgmann DGS related products, as well as services and other relevant details around those topics.

Participants will deepen their knowledge of the operating principles of gas-lubricated seals and gain insights into the specific components and constructional features that distinguish DGS seals - including ‘liftoff’ and ‘self-regulation’. We also provide an insight into the components and design features specifically employed in DGS seals. This includes a discussion of gas groove design – most importantly V- and U-grooves. The course includes an overview of SMS gas supply systems, allowing attendees to understand their structure and functions.

Through practical assembly exercises and guided visits to our production facilities and DGS test rigs, participants will experience the complex structure, precise tolerances, and critical differences of DGS seals compared to other seal types.

The materials used for DGS seals differ to a certain degree from those found in ‘wet’ seals. The course covers the basics of material selection for sliding materials and materials used for secondary sealing elements in DGS-seals. Additionally, we discuss critical operating conditions for DGS seals in common applications to support effective failure prevention and analysis.

The training concludes with a knowledge check.

Target group:
Specialists from operations and maintenance whose tasks include the installation, commissioning and maintenance of gas seals for pumps, agitators or compressors.

Previous Knowledge Required:
The course assumes a sound knowledge of general sealing technology. Participants should have previously attended introductory training to mechanical seals and their technical environment. Furthermore, the technical vocabulary used in the sealing industry is required to follow this training course in English.
